I just updated the Drum Check section with a piece called, “Tips & Tricks … Perfection not Progress” which was inspired by a blog entry on Drumeo. You can read my take on it, and you can watch a cool retro-Rush video of Tom Sawyer from back in the day…It is a bit of read (like mostly everything I post), but it brings up some things that I don’t think get talked about enough. Check it, share it, comment on it, and be sure to check out the original article on Drumeo–all links provided.
The social meds…
Lots of “likes” happening on the RocktheDrums Facebook page (thanks to everyone!), but who wouldn’t want more? Feel free to drop by, take a look around, comment/like anything that you find interesting. The page is open to post from anyone, not just me, so feel free to share a helpful drumming link or a photo of your kit, someone else’s kit, or any kit for that matter. Drum kits are cool, and they come in all shapes and sizes: mine are mostly huge, but there’s plenty o’ room in the drumming world for those little kits, too! Just teasin’ 🙂 The more drummers, the merrier–or at least louder!
Twitter is going well. Lots of new followers, and some interesting Tweets coming through. Twitter has been a pretty steep learning curve for me, but almost think I know what I’m doing. The best thing about it is that I’ve been able to connect with drummers and suppliers from all over the world, and check out what they have going on in their respective drum communities. If you’re into Twitter you can follow RocktheDrums (and I follow back!), and who knows, you might just make a few worthwhile connections of your own.
Instagram has been very interesting. When I first got on it was mostly young women taking and posting shots of their nails, shoes, and themselves in the mirror–all the power to them by the way. However, I thought what Instagram needed was a bit more drum-related content, and you know what? So did a lot of people! Learning my way around the hashtag system (finally!), I was able to connect with some great musicians, photos, and suppliers, and the photos they share are all excellent. There’s still a lot of mirror shots, and shoe shots, and especially food shots–lots of food shots–but I’ve learned to enjoy these, too, and have supplied food shots of my own. I even follow a guy who creates really interesting cocktails, and what could be better than cocktails, food, and drum pics from all over the world! If you’re an Instagramer, you can find me here.
I’ve struggled with Tumblr, and will admit right now that it’s taken quite a while for me just to figure it out. I’m almost there, but not quite; however, I will be updated my content soon, and hopefully as often as possible. I already follow some interesting people, so feel free to check it out here
