The snare is the heart of any kit, and more experienced players soon learn that having a single snare is a bit like having only one golf club–different snares for different situations.
This is an excellently sounding snare, played by an incredible player:
The only downfall (for me) to this snare is that it only comes in that colour and style. I’d own it, yesterday, if it came in black or white or even a metallic or orange for that matter, but the brownish speckle motif (they call birch) just doesn’t blend well with the RTD look/brand. However, I might get it anyway because it sounds great, or hang out for a while and see if Sonor offers up any colour choices in the future. It’s also not cheap either: L&M still has it listed, but I wasn’t able to find it on the Sonor website anymore–maybe they’re not in production anymore, or maybe, they’re gearing up to make it in cooler colours!
Even if you don’t like the snare (and what’s not to like except the colour choice), watching Benny Greb play is never a waste of time, never!
